MIX, Italy’s leading Internet Exchange Point, has announced a partnership with the University of Naples Federico II to promote advanced expertise in Internet infrastructure and strengthen dialogue between academia and industry.
This initiative is part of a series of projects MIX is undertaking with some of Italy’s most prestigious universities, including Bocconi University in Milan and the University of Padua, with the aim of contributing to the training of the next generation of digital professionals and supporting the growth of the country’s Internet ecosystem.
The project, which involves the University’s Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, includes training activities and in-depth sessions dedicated to Internet interconnection, peering and network infrastructure, with an approach that integrates theoretical foundations and practical applications.
Work started on 3 June when Simone Morandini, Service Development Manager at MIX, taught a class on the role of Internet Exchange Points in the development of the Internet, aimed at Computer Engineering students on Prof. Giorgio Ventre’s ‘Networks and Cloud Infrastructures’ course.
The session was included in the programme for NeAcademy and DataFest 2026 – events of which MIX is a strategic partner – dedicated to training and networking among students, professionals and companies in the ICT sector, and hosted at the School of Engineering and Basic Sciences in Fuorigrotta.
The programme continued on 4 and 5 June with a specialist workshop on the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) organised by Glevia and led by Massimiliano Stucchi, one of the leading international experts in the field of peering and Internet infrastructure. The course involved students from the Cisco DTLab Networking Bootcamp – an initiative launched in 2018 by Federico II University, Cisco and the Clara Consortium – offering them practical experience of the interconnection technologies that form the heart of the global network’s operation.“The collaboration with Federico II University confirms MIX’s commitment to making its know-how available to the university system and the next generation of professionals,” said Alessandro Talotta, Executive President & Chairman of MIX. “Fostering dialogue between academic and industry sectors means making a concrete contribution to the development of the strategic skills necessary for the evolution of the country’s Internet infrastructure.”
