The Italian Internet Exchange, a founding member of OHM, will continue to collaborate with Mediterra DataCenters. The two companies already partner at Mediterra’s Rome data center, home to the MIX Rome edge IX.
Milan/Palermo, 30 March 2026 – The recent acquisition of OHM – Open Hub Med by Mediterra marks the beginning of a new phase of development for the Palermo hub, with the goal of strengthening its role as a strategic interconnection point in the Mediterranean. MIX, Italy’s leading Internet Exchange and a founding member of OHM, confirms its commitment to supporting the evolution of the infrastructure and will collaborate with Mediterra in driving the project forward.
MIX and Mediterra share a common vision: bringing content closer to users—both consumers and businesses. To achieve this, they aim to distribute digital infrastructure beyond the major European hubs, enabling broader access to Cloud and AI services for users and enterprises, and contributing to a more balanced digital ecosystem.
Mediterra DataCenters, a platform of premium regional data centers in Southern Europe, designs, builds, and operates high-quality facilities in strategically important digital locations across the Mediterranean basin, starting from Italy. The company provides data center, colocation, and connectivity services to service providers (xSPs—Cloud, Content, Application, Network, and Security providers) and enterprises, connecting these stakeholders through high value-added services within a digital ecosystem powered by its data center network and platform.
The acquisition now opens a new phase for the development of OHM. Palermo is becoming increasingly relevant in global data traffic routes, thanks to the presence of multiple submarine cable landing points and the growing demand for interconnection between Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.
The collaboration between MIX and Mediterra also builds on an already established relationship: since 2023, the MIX Rome edge IX has been deployed in Mediterra’s data center at the Tecnopolo Tiburtino, contributing to the development of interconnection services for operators and content providers.
