Amsterdam, Stockholm and Milan – The Cross-IX service, a collaboration enabling networks to peer across key European peering hubs using just one connection, has taken a major step forward. From today, the service is now available outbound from AMS-IX, one of the largest Internet Exchanges in the world, to Netnod IX in Stockholm and to MIX in Milan. With this service, members and customers of AMS-IX in Amsterdam can expand their reach to the Nordics or Italy connecting directly to Netnod IX or MIX and exchanging traffic with hundreds of unique networks via one simple connection.
Cross-IX provides a simple solution to reach the major connectivity hubs in Europe via a single VLAN without the need for additional hardware or arrangement of transport. All connections can be managed via one single contract and can be provisioned on an existing (or new) port. Now, Cross-IX is available between AMS-IX Amsterdam and Netnod IX and between AMS-IX Amsterdam and MIX, with other connectivity hubs to follow soon.
“Rolling out this second phase of our Cross-IX service is an important step for boosting connectivity in Europe”, says Peter van Burgel, CEO of AMS-IX. “As the Cross-IX ecosystem grows, customers and members can enjoy even easier and simplified connectivity to hundreds of ASNs across Europe. I am pleased we are now able to offer our members and customers a one-stop-shop solution with our trusted partners MIX and Netnod and am looking forward to see the further expansion of our Cross-IX service.”
“This next phase of the Cross-IX service is a big step forward in simplifying how networks interconnect across Europe,” says Karin Ahl, CEO of Netnod. “By enabling direct connections from AMS-IX to Netnod IX Stockholm, we’re making it easier than ever for networks to reach the peering hub of the Nordics. We’re proud to strengthen our partnership with AMS-IX and deliver even more value to our customers.”
Alessandro Talotta, Executive President and Chairman of MIX, commented “We are very pleased with the agreement with AMS-IX. This commercial partnership strengthens the collaboration between European IXPs to the benefit of our respective customers. There is no doubt that Milan, and Italy in general, is growing in terms of data interconnections and hubs that support the development of internet data infrastructure. MIX’s new DC3 facility at Caldera will further facilitate this growth.”
