A talk with Michele Perrucci, MIX Data Center Manager
One of the factors that contributes to making MIX Italy’s leading interconnection platform is the fact that it operates its very own datacentre facility at the heart of the Italian Internet, via Caldera in Milan.
With the unprecedented increase in both internet traffic and customers join MIX over the last couple of years, the MIX Engineering team needed to further expand their datacentre capacity to meet these demands and to also future proof the facility for continued growth potential.
MIX has two data rooms at their facility, known as DC1 and DC2. However, this expansion efforts concentrated specifically on the DC2 part of the data center. But of course, efforts like this need a people, and the lead engineer on the DC2 expansion effort was MIX’s very own Data Center Manager, Michele Perrucci whom has been working at MIX for more than 20 years!
Michele oversees all operations related to the datacentre and the entire management cycle. His main activities include the implementation and management of DC areas as well as the important task of assisting MIX customers with access-interventions, installations, wiring and customizations on specific customer projects. Furthermore, he evaluates the technological aspects related to the infrastructure for the further development of MIX DCs.
“Our customer’s needs are always a high priority for us. Ensuring that our datacentre has both the capacity and the high technical specifications that our customers deserve helps drive both our engineering team and me further”, said Michele.
Michele is known to be meticulous rand recognised by his colleagues for always delivery his best. He is determined in achieving his goals both on time and to the highest professional degree. His interests are submerged in the world of DCs and to all those transformations that the future can throw at him. Cabling and fiber are his daily bread!

I’ve always been partial to the phrase, coming from one of our customers who called us “the peering workshop” because workshops are synonymous with high quality”, added Michele.
The expansion of DC2 was born as an extension of DC1. The initial logic has been overturned by going from a single open space environment to smaller independent rooms with 20-24 racks and another with 12-14 racks. With the creation of the DC2 we have set up rooms with more flexible and capacious racks, giving our customers the possibility of installing the latest generation machines.
Thanks to MMRs, MIX provides each rack with maximum flexibility, drastically reducing delivery times.
