The two companies already partner at Mediterra\u2019s Rome data center, home to the MIX Rome edge IX. <\/em><\/p>\n\n<p>Milan\/Palermo, 30 March 2026<strong> <\/strong>\u2013 The recent acquisition of <strong>OHM \u2013 Open Hub Med <\/strong>by Mediterra marks the beginning of a new phase of development for the Palermo hub, with the goal of strengthening its role as a strategic interconnection point in the Mediterranean. <strong>MIX<\/strong>, Italy\u2019s leading Internet Exchange and a founding member of OHM, confirms its commitment to supporting the evolution of the infrastructure and will collaborate with Mediterra in driving the project forward. <\/p>\n\n<p>MIX and Mediterra share a common vision: bringing content closer to users\u2014both consumers and businesses. To achieve this, they aim to distribute digital infrastructure beyond the major European hubs, enabling broader access to Cloud and AI services for users and enterprises, and contributing to a more balanced digital ecosystem. <\/p>\n\n<p>Mediterra DataCenters, a platform of premium regional data centers in Southern Europe, designs, builds, and operates high-quality facilities in strategically important digital locations across the Mediterranean basin, starting from Italy. The company provides data center, colocation, and connectivity services to service providers (xSPs\u2014Cloud, Content, Application, Network, and Security providers) and enterprises, connecting these stakeholders through high value-added services within a digital ecosystem powered by its data center network and platform.  <strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>The acquisition now opens a new phase for the development of OHM. Palermo is becoming increasingly relevant in global data traffic routes, thanks to the presence of multiple submarine cable landing points and the growing demand for interconnection between Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. <\/p>\n\n<p>The collaboration between MIX and Mediterra also builds on an already established relationship: since 2023, the MIX Rome edge IX has been deployed in Mediterra\u2019s data center at the Tecnopolo Tiburtino, contributing to the development of interconnection services for operators and content providers.<\/p>\n\n<p><em>\u201cWe have developed the OHM project since its inception together with the other partners and continue to consider it a key infrastructure for interconnection in the Mediterranean, with strong growth potential both locally and across the region,\u201d<\/em> said Mauro Magrassi, CTO of MIX. <em>\u201cMediterra\u2019s entry represents an important step forward for the growth of the Carini hub, and MIX will continue to contribute with passion and determination to the development of the ecosystem.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n<p><em>\u201cThe acquisition of Open Hub Med is a cornerstone of our development strategy in Italy and Southern Europe,\u201d <\/em>said Emmanuel Becker, CEO of Mediterra DataCenters.  <em>&#8220;Sicily is emerging as the new digital hub of the Mediterranean: a natural bridge to emerging markets and a landing point for major submarine backbones from Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.
