With about 150,000 km of submarine cables that land in Sicily, Italy is the major natural hub of the “wet networks” of the Mediterranean. Exploiting this strategic position to strengthen Italy’s role in international telecommunications was the driver that led to the establishment of the Open Hub Med (OHM) Consortium. The Consortium was founded by MIX with other important national and international players. Today the members of Open Hub Med are: Atomo Networks, Eolo, Fastweb, Insite, GTT Italy, Italtel, MIX, Retelit, Supernap Italia, Vu-chain and XMED consortium.
What it offers
OHM offers colocation services within a carrier-independent datacentre and connection services from the Palermo and Sicily HUB of Telecom Sparkle thanks to agreements with its partners.
The presence of MIX for peering services and the presence of key national and international carriers, allows customers in OHM to reach the European Internet backbones at competitive costs. This and its proximity to all the submarine cables that land in Sicily creates a technological bridge between Europe and networks that cross the Mediterranean.
MIX in OHM
Within OHM, MIX offers its own peering services with its own fully redundant PoP configured according to the standards in place in Milan.
The MIX PoP is connected to the Milan Core in protected capacity providing OHM members with an opportunity to realise peering agreements with all networks connected to MIX Milan.
The costs and method of connection to MIX in OHM are the same as any MIX PoP. Co-location services are provided and managed by OHM.
