PUBLIC PEERING

Is the basic service provided to all the ISPs connected to MIX, that exchange IP traffic through a shared Layer 2 infrastructure.

ABSTRACT
  • Available for all ISPs who has signed the “ Memorandum of Understanding” and satisfy the technical and formal requirements;
  • Zero settlement peering traffic exchanged across public MIX VLAN;
  • Valid for one or all of the following types of traffic:
    • Unicast IPv4
    • Unicast IPv6
    • Multicast IPv4
    • Multicast IPv6
  • Based on BGP protocol, within a public Autonomus System Number (AS) issued by any Regional Internet Registry (RIR) for example: APNIC, ARIN, LACNIC, RIPE-NCC, etc and with public IP addresses belonging to its own AS.
BENEFITS
  • Chance to make free peering arrangements with all the ISPs connect to MIX;
  • Direct peering with replicas of "i.root-servers.net", "k.root-servers.net" and"j.root-servers.net";
  • Direct peering with the secondary name-server for the ccTLD and TLD connect to MIX (i.e. ".IT", ".EU", ".COM", ."NET", etc.);
  • Real time visibility of current and historical traffic, divided in: total traffic,traffic for interface, traffic to each other single peer and traffic for typology of TCP/UDP port; (See "Statistics")
  • Outside visibility through: MIX’s customer list published on MIX site web and Euro-IX data base.
  • Inclusion on technical mailing-list of MIX customer, reserved access to the customer page that contain informations, tools, statistics and additional technical documentations you need;
  • Chance to partecipate to MIX events.
WHAT'S INCLUDED IN THE SERVICE
  • Allocation and use of switch ports of MIX;
  • Connection on the ports of MIX’s switch from any point of data center room through structured cabling prepared by MIX;
  • Assignment of two IPv4 / IPv6 addresses to be used on the primary and back-up network of Public Peering;
  • Reverse resolution of IP address assigned on primary and secondary DNS of MIX address space;
  • 24x7 assistance by MIX’s Network Operator Center (NOC);
  • Out-of-Band (OOB) access for the remote management of routers colocated in the data center;
  • Chance to install network devices inside our data center room with preferential prices.
All the aspects not mentioned above must be considered not included in the standard service. Any further resources can be asked directly to the NOC

PRIVATE PEERING

Is an extent of the basic service that the ISPs, already connected to MIX, can use when they want to make bilateral peering arrangements for transit or when they exchange a lot of traffic and they need a dedicated connection.

ABSTRACT
  • Allows the creation a private interconnection between two ISPs through a virtual connection realized on MIX switches;
  • Available for all ISPs already connected to the Peering Public LAN;
  • Realized through dedicated VLAN and reserved to the two customers who partecipate to the reserved VLAN in the following way:
  • connecting to MIX’s switch a dedicated interface:this requires the use of a dedicated port on the switch;
  • using an interface already emploied (e.g. for public peering) and applying the 802.1Q protocol (tagging of interface);
  • Valid for one or all of the following types of traffic:
  • Unicast IPv4/IPv6
  • Multicast IPv/IPv6
  • Based on BGP protocol, within a public Autonomus System Number (AS) issued by any Regional Internet Registry (RIR) for example: APNIC, ARIN, LACNIC, RIPE-NCC, etc and with public IP addresses belonging to its own AS;
  • The traffic exchanged on the dedicated VLAN is aggregated to MIX total traffic; moreover, if the VLAN is made by means of dedicated ports, the traffic is monitored separately from that of public peering and only the ISPs involved in the private peering can see the level of traffic exchanged.

In addition to the benefits included with the service of Public Peering:

  • Ability to route private traffic flows to other MIX members by means of resources already in use;
  • Real time visibility of current and historical traffic, divided in: total traffic,traffic for interface, traffic to each other single peer and traffic for typology of TCP/UDP port.(See "Statistics")

WHAT'S INCLUDED IN THE SERVICE
  • According to the ISPs requests, allocation and use of additional ports on MIX switch or configuration of Q-Tagging on interfaces already used;
  • Connection on the ports of MIX’s switch from any point of data center room through structured cabling prepared by MIX;
  • Configuration and maintenance of private VLAN,to which is asigned a /30 Ipv4 network and a /64 IPV6 network, belonging to MIX addressing space but external to the block for Public Peering;
  • Assignment of one IPv4 address and one IPv6 address to each ISP connected to the private VLAN;
  • Reverse resolution of addresses assigned on primary and secondary DNS;
  • 24x7 assistance of MIX’s Network Operator Center (NOC);
  • Out-of-Band (OOB) access arranged for the remote management of routers colocated inside the data center;
  • Chance to install network devices inside our data center room with preferencial prices.

CLOSED USER GROUP PEERING

Is a service dedicated to a closed group of ISPs that require sharing a LAN on which to route types of traffic subject to interest (SLAs) of the group itself.

ABSTRACT
  • Allows the setup, on a dedicated VLAN, of peering relationships among a limited number of ISPs;
  • Available for all ISPs already connected to LAN of Public Peering;
  • Realized through dedicated VLAN and reserved to the ISPs of the group who partecipate to the reserved VLAN in the following way:
  • connecting to MIX’s switch a dedicated interface: this requires the use of a dedicated port on the MIX switch;
  • using an interface already emploied (e.g. for public peering) and applying the 802.1Q protocol (tagging of interface);
  • Valid for one or all of the following types of traffic:
  • Unicast IPv4/IPv6
  • Multicast IPv/IPv6
  • Based on BGP protocol, within a public Autonomus System Number (AS) issued by any Regional Internet Registry (RIR) for example: APNIC, ARIN, LACNIC, RIPE-NCC, etc and with public IP addresses belonging to its own AS;
  • The traffic exchanged on the dedicated VLAN is monitored separately from that of Public Peering and it is aggregated to MIX total traffic. The specific details of traffic are available only to the ISPs involved in the CUG.

CO-LOCATION

The service of Co-lo gives the possibility to the ISPs to install their routing and trasmission equipment inside the data center, for peering or transit. This service is not a housing/hosting service in itself.

ABSTRACT
  • Available for all ISPs connected to the Public Peering LAN;
  • ISPs have the opportunity to install their own equipment inside MIX data center in the following areas:
  • Blue Area : in the case of installation of networking equipment 220 V AC powered;
  • Orange Area : in the case of installation of networking equipment -48 V DC powered;
  • Green Area : in the case of installation of optical boxes(requires the subscription of L1 Contract ).

BENEFITS

In addition to the benefits included with the service of Public Peering:

  • Availability to use a co-location space in a highly equipped area at low prices; for a detailed illustration of the spaces, go to the data center section;
  • First level assistence, management of damages and support of MIX NOC for the installation of the equipment and direct operations (card insertion, links, tests, etc.);
  • Quickness and flexibility for any intervention thanks to the direct contact with NOC;
  • Data center access 24x7;
  • Out-of-Band (OOB) access for the remote management of routers colocated in the data center.

WHAT'S INCLUDED IN THE SERVICE
  • 24x7 assistance and availability of MIX NOC;
  • Data center access 24x7 controlled by MIX NOC;
  • Out-of-Band (OOB) access arranged for the remote management of routers colocated inside the data center;
  • In Blue area :
  • supply of 19" racks: 600x600, 600x800,800x1000;
  • copper/fiber (MM and SM) cabling from the racks to the MIX switches;
  • redundant power supply on two independent electric systems inside data center ;
  • precabling from the racks to the OOB system arranged by MIX.
  • In Green Area :
  • supply of 19" rack space for the accomodation of the optical boxes for fiber to/from the ISP;
  • precabling in MM and SM fiber from the racks to MIX switches.
  • In orange area :
  • supply of space with availability of 220V AC power and -48V DC power in which the ISPs can install their own racks;
  • cabling from the ISPs racks to MIX switches;
  • cabling from the ISPs racks to the OOB system arranged by MIX.

INTERCONNECTION SERVICES

MIX data center room is considered as a big "Meet-Me-Room” in which every ISP and Carrier can easily connect to: make private arrangement peering, buy and sell traffic, interconnect their backbones, create connection inside MIX and between MIX and the other data centers connected to MIX.

ABSTRACT
  • Available for all the operators (ISPs and Carriers) present inside MIX data center;
  • Allows the physical connection among active or passive equipment present in any area of MIX through protected and controlled passages.

BENEFITS
  • Possibility to realize interconnection to about 100 operators among ISPs and Carriers present at MIX;
  • Realization of interconnection in fiber or copper inside differentiated pipes and arranged to cover all areas of the data center;
  • Ease and quickness in the realization of the interconnection thanks to the support of MIX NOC.

WHAT'S INCLUDED IN THE SERVICE
  • Passage in protected pipes accessed exclusively by MIX NOC;
  • Monitoring, Inventory and labeling of each circuit installed by the operators;
  • Support during the installation phase of the circuit itself by MIX NOC .

POOLING@MIX

This service allows the access to the peering VLAN by groups of ISPs through the sharing of the access resources with a clear reduction of the connection costs.

ABSTRACT

In order to exist, each Pool must be composed of a Pool Registrar (PR) that is the interface to MIX and one or more Pool Elements (PE) representing the ISPs that plan to connect to MIX sharing the resources.
For the activation of a Pool it is necessary that each Pool Element must declare its own access speed and that the sum of the speed of each Pool Element must always be less or equal to the port speed on MIX.
The composition of a Pool is an activity that involves only its own members and is independent with regards to MIX.

BENEFITS

For ISPs:
  • possibility to join MIX at competitive costs;
  • facilitation of the connection set-up phase.

For Carriers:
  • offer of a new L2 transport service;
  • opening of a new transport circuit market.

If the Pool is organized by a company that offers co-location services, the benefits for the DC provider are:
  • insertion of the connection to MIX into their services portfolio;
  • fidelity of its customers;
  • where not already present, potential increase of co-location customers.

If the Pool is organized by a regional IX, the benefits for the aggregator IX are:
  • traffic increase;
  • sales increase in terms of margin on organized buying groups;
  • increase of the services portfolio (introduction of a one-stop-shop service);
  • fidelity of its members.

 COSTS

The Pool will provide the purchase of the geographical circuit and of the peering port on MIX.
Each ISP part of the Pool will recognize to MIX the annual joining fee of 850,00 €.
The PR will take care to pay to MIX the peering port/s fee.
The economical rel ationships in existence within the Pool between PEs and the PR are no concern of MIX.

PILOT PROJECTS

Before offering a new service, MIX carries out a pilot phase of the project, aimed at fixing any technical aspect and studing the impact on the ISPs and the existing services. At this stage all the interested operators can participate. These tests are characterized by a “best effort” approach at no additional cost.
