End of the IPv6 experimentation phase and launch of the IPv6 operational phase

The Milan Internet eXchange (MIX), communicates the experimentatal phase of IPv6 BGP peerings has been concluded.

Nowadays IPv6 is becoming a real fact in many Italian and European scenarios, in particular way in the research networks. This development is strongly encouraged by the European Commission that is supporting various research projects related to IPv6, from which we want to point up the newborn Italian IPv6 Task Force. For all these reasons, we think it is the right time to promote IPv6 from the test phase into the operational one, also for the robustness of the implementations supplied by the manufacturers.

After this experimental phase, IPv6 peerings will be activated on the same IPv4 peerings LAN allowing IPv6 peering sessions on the same physical interfaces already in use.
